Joshua Filler will not compete at this year’s Mosconi Cup after being removed from the event, despite having qualified via the World Nineball Tour rankings.
Filler, who was also withdrawn from the inaugural Reyes Cup in the Philippines last month, will not be involved in the trans-Atlantic extravaganza for the first time in six years.
Matchroom were hesitant in disclosing too much when it came to the reasoning behind their ‘difficult decision’, but did reveal that the reasons have been communicated with the two-time Mosconi Cup MVP.
Filler was notably removed from the Reyes Cup due to ‘concerns over contractual obligations and team integrity’ and was replaced by the next highest-placed player in David Alcaide.
Alcaide also steps up to the plate for the Mosconi Cup in Orlando, Florida and the Spaniard will therefore make his sixth appearance at the event.
Filler being removed from both the Reyes Cup and now the Mosconi Cup comes after he went back on his word in boycotting WPA events and notably withdrew from Matchroom’s Hanoi Open.
