The UK Open Pool Championship returns for its fifth edition from March 10-15, as the World Nineball Tour ranking major takes place at the Brentwood Centre, near London, England.
A mixture of seasoned professionals and budding amateurs will compete in the $225,000 tournament, which follows on from Moritz Neuhausen’s European Open Championship triumph two months ago.
Players will be vying to follow in the footsteps of former champions Joshua Filler, Eklent Kaci, Robbie Capito and Aloysius Yapp, the latter of who completed a comprehensive 13-1 win over Jonas Souto Comino in last year’s final.
World number one Fedor Gorst and US Open champion Yapp will be the front runners in a star-studded lineup, which also involves Filler, European Open champion Neuhausen, Francisco Sanchez Ruiz and Jayson Shaw.
Vietnamese number one Duong Quoc Hoang has travelled, competing alongside the likes of Hanoi Open winner Pijus Labutis, Wojciech Szewczyk and Daniel Maciol, as well as David Alcaide, Max Lechner and Alex Kazakis.
Despite the notable absences of two-time world champion Carlo Biado and Johann Chua, the Philippines will be strongly represented by the likes of Bernie Regalario, Jefrey Roda, James Aranas, Michael Baoanan and Ronel Nalaunan.
Shaw, Chris Melling and Elliott Sanderson will provide the greatest hopes of a British success story, with former world champion Darren Appleton, Imran Majid, Dean Shields and Fraser Patrick also amongst the notable Brits involved.
As has become the norm at the UK Open Championship, snooker stars Stuart Bingham, Gary Wilson and Chris Wakelin, while Matchroom boss Barry Hearn and darts star Gerwyn Price will attract outside attention on the tournament.
The double elimination phase will take place from May 26-27, with 128 players then progressing to the single elimination phase which begins on March 13.
It will be race-to-nine racks on the winners’ side and race-to-eight racks on the one-loss side during double elimination, before the format increases to race-to-10 racks for the last 128 through to the quarter-finals.
The semi-finals and final will take place on Sunday, May 31 across two sessions, with the format being race-to-11 racks for the semi-finals and race-to-13 racks for the title decider.
Coverage will be broadcast via WNT TV for subscribers in most territories across the world, including the USA, Vietnam and the Philippines, while British coverage will be shown via the talkSPORT YouTube channel.
