The Florida Open Pool Championship returns for its second iteration from August 4-9 at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, as Singapore’s Aloysius Yapp defends his title in the sunshine state.
With the Arizona Open Championship and the prestigious US Open Championship to follow, the Florida Open is the first of three Matchroom majors to take place in August, as the world’s elite prepare for the biggest month of the season.
Newly-minted world number one Yapp leads the 256-player field with the intention of retaining his golden palm tree trophy, while reigning world champion Carlo Biado is another of the seven top ten stars to have entered.
European Open winner Moritz Neuhausen, UK Open champion Joshua Filler, Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, Pijus Labutis and recent Vice City Classic winner Kledio Kaci will be involved, as will the likes of David Alcaide, Wiktor Zielinski, Jonas Souto Comino and Eklent Kaci.
Shane van Boening, Jayson Shaw and two-time world champion Albin Ouschan will also be amongst the title favourites, while Japan’s Naoyuki Oi, Robbie Capito, Oliver Szolnoki, Alex Kazakis, Mario He, Mickey Krause and Vietnamese number one Duong Quoc Hoang are further elite stars in the field.
Other notable names include Mosconi Cup legends Johnny Archer and Jeremy Jones, Venezuela’s Jesus Atencio, Peru’s Gerson Martinez and Cristopher Tevez, and teenage sensations AJ Manas, Felix Vogel, Albert Januarta and Walter Laikre.
Skyler Woodward, Tyler Styer and Billy Thorpe are amongst the stand out Americans names competing on home turf, which also involves Oscar Dominguez, Shane Wolford, Justin Bergman and Anthony Meglino.
The double elimination phase will take place from August 4-5, with 128 players then progressing to the single elimination phase which begins on August 6.
It will be race-to-nine racks on the winners’ side and race-to-eight racks on the one-loss side during double elimination, before the format increases to race-to-10 racks for the last 128 through to the quarter-finals.
The semi-finals and final will take place on Sunday, August 9 across two sessions, with the format being race-to-11 racks for the semi-finals and race-to-13 racks for the title decider.
Coverage of three tables will be broadcast via WNT TV for subscribers in most territories across the world, including the USA, Vietnam and the Philippines. TalkSPORT’s YouTube channel will show coverage of table one in the UK as well as table four globally.
