The second staging of the Philippines Open Pool Championship takes place from October 20-24 in Quezon City as 128 players compete in the single elimination major.

Hundreds of Filipino fans watched from all three floors of the Gateway Mall as David Alcaide defeated Arseni Sevastyanov in last year’s inaugural final, creating a unique environment for a major tournament.

US Open champion Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, Fedor Gorst, Shane van Boening will compete fresh from their Reyes Cup triumph, while world number five Joshua Filler will be amongst the notable absentees.

World number one Aloysius Yapp and reigning two-time world champion Carlo Biado will headline the field, which also includes US Open runner-up Robbie Capito, Arizona Open winner Denis Grabe and European Open winner Moritz Neuhausen.

Other notable entrants include Jayson Shaw, Indonesian phenom Albert Januarta, Duong Quoc Hoang, Oliver Szolnoki, Mickey Krause, Alex Pagulayan and Ralf Souquet, as well as Americans Skyler Woodward, Justin Bergman, Lukas Fracasso-Verner and Thorsten Hohmann.

Johann Chua features in his first WNT major tournament since last October’s Hanoi Open and is amongst 74 Filipinos involved, which also includes Jefrey Roda, Roland Garcia, Lee Van Corteza, Bernie Regalario, Harry Vergara and AJ Manas.

Francisco Bustamante, the 2010 world champion, returns to the shopping mall a year after stunning Fedor Gorst in a dramatic deciding rack, competing alongside a fellow Filipino legend in 2010 World Masters winner Dennis Orcollo.

Other Filipino entrants include Ronnie Alcano, Ronel Nalaunan, Alexis Ferrer, Anton Raga, Baseth Mocaibat and popular teenager Jaybee Sucal, as well as James Aranas, Jeffrey de Luna, Michael Feliciano, Roberto Gomez and two-time women’s world 10-ball champion Chezka Centeno.

In similar fashion to last year’s inaugural edition and August’s Arizona Open, the Philippines Open will brutally be single elimination throughout and marks the conclusion of the qualifying races for both the Mosconi Cup and the World Pool Masters.

It will be race-to-10 through to the quarter-finals, while the semi-finals and final will take place on Saturday, October 24 across two sessions, with the format being race-to-11 racks for the semi-finals and race-to-13 racks for the final.

Coverage of three tables will be broadcast via WNT TV for subscribers, while a free table four stream will be available on the Matchroom Pool YouTube channel. OneSports and Vietcontent will show the action in the Philippines and Vietnam respectively.
