Despite players in the calibre of world number one Aloysius Yapp, reigning two-time world champion Carlo Biado and recent UK Open winner Joshua Filler being amongst the title favourites in a star-studded Orlando lineup, it’s always worth seeking value in these major open championships.

Somebody who fits that bill perfectly is Albanian youngster Kledio Kaci, who competes fresh from winning last week’s Vice City Classic. As one of the most prodigious young talents in the game, it’s only a matter of time until Kaci follows in his brother’s footsteps and lands a major accolade.

Competing in the same relatively methodical fashion as his older brother, Kaci is composed around the table and has quickly evolved into a force to be reckoned with on the tour. He reached the World Championship semi-finals last summer and followed that with a run to the European Open quarter-finals in March.

Oliver Szolnoki has been ultra consistent this season, winning three smaller scale WNT ranking events and reaching the quarter-finals minimum in the vast majority of the events that he has entered. He also stunned Fedor Gorst in a gripping shootout at a recent Pro Billiard Series event in Austria away from the World Nineball Tour.

Szolnoki is laying the foundations for a real breakthrough run in a major tournament, and the Hungarian has truly proved his pedigree thus far this year. He’s now expected to make a splash this month stateside, with that splash potentially coming in the Sunshine State.

Marco Teutscher, meanwhile, attracted attention at the Vice City Open, brushing aside Eklent Kaci, AJ Manas and Fedor Gorst on his way to the semi-finals. It was his most impressive run on the WNT circuit to date and ideal preparation for the Florida Open.

Teutscher is always a potential banana skin for every top professional in these major events, although his exploits last week suggested more than that and that makes the Dutchman a promising low stake, high rewards flutter.
