The China Open returns from September 9-13 for its 15th edition as Wojciech Szewcyzk and Chihiro Kawahara defend their titles in the country’s biggest city of Shanghai.
One of the most lucrative tournaments on the WPA calendar returns to the Tangzhen Cultural and Sports Centre, with more than $350,000 in prize money on offer across the men’s and women’s events.
WPA world number one and defending champion Szewczyk will lead the men’s tournament alongside the likes of three-time winner Joshua Filler as well as two-time world nine-ball champions Fedor Gorst and Albin Ouschan.
Francisco Sanchez Ruiz will compete in China fresh from winning a second US Open Championship title, while Aloysius Yapp, David Alcaide and Alex Kazakis are also amongst the stars to have entered.
Other notable names include recent US Open runner-up Robbie Capito, Jonas Souto Comino, Daniel Maciol and Naoyuki Oi, as well as China’s own Dang Jinhu, Max Lechner, Thorsten Hohmann, Mario He and 2024 runner-up Hayato Hijikata of Japan.
Meanwhile, four-time champion Han Yu will headline a star-studded women’s lineup, which also involves defending champion Kawahara of Japan, reigning world nine-ball champion Seo Seoa and world number one Wei Tzu-Chien.
Other notable names in the women’s event include Chou Chieh-Yu, Kristina Tkach, Pia Filler, Rubilen Amit, Kelly Fisher and Savannah Easton, as well as Chinese world champions Liu Shasha and Fu Xiaofang.
The format in the men’s tournament will be double elimination and race-to-nine racks until 32 players remain, when the format switches to single elimination and race-to-11 racks.
Meanwhile, the women’s tournament will be double elimination and race-to-seven racks until 16 players remain, with the format then transitioning to single elimination and race-to-nine racks.
Both tournaments are seeded via the WPA rankings and will see matches played in accordance with the current WPA rules and regulations, nine-ball on the spot, no break box and the three-point rule will be enforced.
Multiple tables will be broadcast via the Kozoom Pool YouTube channel as well as numerous Chinese platforms throughout the week, including Sunday’s men’s and women’s finals.
