Fedor Gorst and Jayson Shaw will renew rivalries in a mouth-watering World Pool Masters semi-final in Hildesheim, Germany, while defending champion Ko Pin-Yi and home hero Joshua Filler also advanced.

Gorst and Shaw contested an epic quarter-final contest during last year’s Hanoi Open Championship in Vietnam, but the Mosconi Cup rivals will now lock horns once again following their respective wins over Albin Ouschan and Shane van Boening.

The pair advanced into the semi-finals in contrasting fashions, with Gorst producing five break and runs in a 10-1 demolition of two-time world champion Ouschan, before Shaw needed a comeback of epic proportions to deny Van Boening.

Gorst opened with a golden break and subsequently reeled off six straight racks, notably executing a two-eight combo in the second rack as well as a clutch bank shot of the nine ball in the fourth.

Ouschan capitalised on a missed three ball from Gorst to get his first rack on the board in the seventh rack, and the Austrian received another opportunity in rack eight after accidentally fluking the four ball when attempting to pot the red three.

Nevertheless, Ouschan spurned his chance on the three ball and handed control back to the former world champion. A well-executed safety from Gorst led to Ouschan fouling and him moving onto the hill, before break and running to seal a commanding 10-1 win.

Gorst engaged in his newfound rivalry with Shaw in his post-match interview, revealing that he wanted to face the Brit because of his will to win against him, and his wish came true following a captivating comeback.

Shaw quickly found himself trailing 7-3 against two-time champion Van Boening, who capitalised on Shaw’s scratch from the break in the opener. The American followed that with a golden break and dominated the early exchanges.

Shaw battled back nonetheless following a crucial missed three ball from Van Boening in the tenth rack, eventually restoring parity at eight apiece. Fortune then favoured the British number one, who missed the five ball by a considerable distance but somehow fluked the nine to middle pocket to move onto the hill.

It was a brutal finish to a closely-contested quarter-final as SVB received no further opportunities from Shaw who cleared the table to arrange a semi-final showdown with US Open runner-up Gorst.

Elsewhere, defending champion Ko Pin-Yi scuppered Francisco Sanchez Ruiz’s hopes of adding the World Pool Masters to his honours haul, dominating the world number one in a 10-1 rout.

Sanchez Ruiz claimed the opening rack but proceeded to scratch from the break and that allowed Ko to assert his ascendancy, winning ten straight racks and limiting the Spaniard to few opportunities which he was unable to take advantage of.

Ko will continue his title defence against home favourite Joshua Filler, the 2022 champion, after the German defeated his younger brother Ko Ping-Chung in equally commanding fashion, booking his place in the semi-finals with a 10-4 victory.

A missed two-nine combination to lead 3-2 in rack five as well as a missed jump shot on the eight ball in the eighth proved particularly costly for the US Open champion, with Filler latching onto every small error.

The World Pool Masters semi-finals will be held on Sunday afternoon at Halle 39 in Hildesheim, before the final takes place on Sunday evening in a match worth $40,000 in prize money.
