The inaugural Phoenix Open will take place from August 18-22 at the Metro Sportz Bar in Phoenix, Arizona, acting as the third World Nineball Tour ranking event to be held stateside in as many weeks.
World number one Aloysius Yapp and reigning two-time world champion Carlo Biado will headline the field, while two-time world champion Fedor Gorst will return to competitive action in the Grand Canyon State.
Joshua Filler, Francisco Sanchez Ruiz and David Alcaide will be amongst 14 of the world’s top 16 to be setting their sights on the $20,000 top prize, as are the likes of Moritz Neuhausen, Pijus Labutis and Kledio Kaci.
Arizona Open champion Denis Grabe will compete in his first WNT ranking event as a major winner, while Shane van Boening enters fresh from a 14-match winning streak as his preparation towards a potentially record-breaking US Open continues.
Other notable entrants include Alex Kazakis, Naoyuki Oi, Mickey Krause, Robbie Capito, Jonas Souto Comino and Vietnamese star Duong Quoc Hoang, as well as Filipino cueists Jefrey Roda, Bernie Regalario, AJ Manas, Roland Garcia, and Harry Vergara.
Jesus Atencio, Wu Kun-Lin, Indonesian phenom Albert Januarta and the legendary Ralf Souquet are also involved, as are three-time ranking event winner Oliver Szolnoki, Justin Bergman and Wiktor Zielinski.
The tournament will feature 128 players and be double elimination until 32 players remain. Double elimination matches will be race-to-nine racks, while the last 32 onwards will be race-to-10 racks through to the semi-finals, which will be race-to-11 racks followed by the race-to-13 final.
Coverage will be broadcast via WNT TV for subscribers, while additional coverage will be shown via the Railbirds Productions and Metro Sportz Bar and Billiards YouTube channels.
