The opening leg of a British double-header on the World Nineball Tour takes place this week in Glasgow, Scotland as the Scottish Open is held at the renowned McGoldrick’s Pool and Sports Bar from May 1-5.

The Scottish Open provides the majority of the star-studded 96-player field – perhaps one of the greatest seen in British pool – with an ideal opportunity to prepare for next week’s major UK Open Pool Championship.

All of the world’s top ten players on the world nineball rankings as well as 29 of the world’s top 32 have entered, with Jayson Shaw defending his title after beating Polish sensation Wiktor Zielinski in last year’s final.

Newly-crowned World Pool Masters champion Fedor Gorst will be in attendance, as will the likes of number one and world champion Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, Shane van Boening, Joshua Filler and UK Open champion Eklent Kaci.

Pijus Labutis, a two-time ranking event runner-up on two occasions this year, will be hoping to continue his charge towards Mosconi Cup and Reyes Cup debuts, while David Alcaide returns to the venue that saw him win his maiden ranking title last year.

Both Tyler Styer and Oscar Dominguez have travelled to the UK early in an attempt to gain crucial ranking points towards the Mosconi Cup, while Carlo Biado, Lee Van Corteza, Duong Quoc Hoang and Nguyen Anh Tuan are amongst an Asian contingent hoping to earn places on their Reyes Cup team.

In addition, World Nineball Tour pundits Karl Boyes and Jeremy Jones will be dropping their microphones and dusting off their cues, as both former major champions are set to compete in Glasgow, Scotland.

Snooker star Gary Wilson returns to the World Nineball Tour following his relatively successful stint last year, while Elliott Sanderson, Imran Majid, Tom Staveley and Dean Shields are all amongst the British entrants.

The Scottish Open will be double elimination until 16 players remain and the format then switches to single elimination. It will be race-to-ten racks, winner breaks throughout and race-to-eight on the one-loss side.

Coverage will be broadcast on the Scottish Cuesports Live Streaming YouTube channel throughout the five days, while selected matches will be shown on the Matchroom Pool YouTube channel.
