The Qatar 10-Ball World Cup, formerly known as the Qatar Open, takes place from October 24-29 at the Ezdan Palace Hotel in Doha.
Organised by the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation and sanctioned by the World Pool Association, an array of the world’s elite names will be competing for a lucrative $450,000 prize fund.
Jonas Magpantay of the Philippines will be defending his title in the Middle East, having defeated Polish youngster Szymon Kural to seal the $100,000 title last year.
Reigning two-time world 10-ball champion and WPA world number one Wojciech Szewczyk, Joshua Filler, Fedor Gorst and Francisco Sanchez Ruiz are amongst the title favourites, as are former world 10-ball champions Eklent Kaci and Carlo Biado.
Alex Kazakis, David Alcaide and 2024 champion Daniel Maciol are also involved, alongside the likes of Albin Ouschan, Jayson Shaw, Kledio Kaci, Naoyuki OI, Aleksa Pecelj, Denis Grabe and Robbie Capito.
Other notable entrants include Vietnam’s Duong Quoc Hoang, Middle East star Ameer Ali of Iran and Qatari number one Ali Al-Obaidli, as well as Oliver Szolnoki, Mieszko Fortunski, Niels Feijen, Wu Kun-Lin, Mario He and Max Lechner.
Numerous Filipino players have travelled to the Middle East as they aim to follow in Magpantay’s footsteps, including Biado, Jefrey Roda, Bernie Regalario, Jeffrey Ignacio, Aivhan Maluto and AJ Manas.
The tournament will be double elimination, alternate break and race-to-nine until 64 players remain, before the format increases to race-to-11 through to the race-to-13 final, while coverage will be broadcast on the Qatar Billiard Sports Federation YouTube channel.
