The Arizona Open takes place from August 13-16 at the Quechan Casino Resort in Yuma, Arizona as the first staging of the Matchroom tournament sees 128 players compete in the Grand Canyon State.
Fresh from his Florida Open Championship success in Orlando, Shane van Boening will be amongst those vying to seal the $25,000 top prize alongside world number one Aloysius Yapp and reigning two-time world champion Carlo Biado.
Ex-world champions Joshua Filler, Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, Albin Ouschan and Ralf Souquet, who were all beaten by Van Boening during his phenomenal Orlando run, are amongst a star-studded Arizona lineup, as is Florida Open finalist Alex Kazakis.
World number four Moritz Neuhausen, David Alcaide, brothers Eklent and Kledio Kaci and Pijus Labutis are also involved, as are Mickey Krause, Jonas Souto Comino, Naoyuki Oi and Jayson Shaw.
The Philippines will have stronger representation than they received at the Florida Open, with Biado and Reyes Cup MVP AJ Manas being joined by the likes of Bernie Regalario, Jefrey Roda, Roberto Gomez, Roland Garcia and Michael Baoanan.
Other notable entrants include Vietnam’s Duong Quoc Hoang, Oliver Szolnoki, Max Lechner, Wiktor Zielinski and Indonesian teenage sensation Albert Januarta, as well as Florida Open semi-finalist Jesus Atencio and Peru’s Cristopher Tevez and Gerson Martinez.
Skyler Woodward, Tyler Styer, Justin Bergman, Corey Deuel and nine-time Mosconi Cup winner Johnny Archer will be amongst the Americans involved, with crucial ranking points towards the Mosconi Cup on offer in Arizona.
Differing from Matchroom’s usual open championships and using an identical format to last year’s Philippines Open, the Arizona Open will feature no double elimination phase and it is straight knockout from the very first round.
It will be race-to-10 racks through to the quarter-finals, while the semi-finals and final will take place on Sunday, August 16 across two sessions, with the format being race-to-11 racks for the semi-finals and race-to-13 racks for the final.
Coverage of the main table and tables two and three will be broadcast via WNT TV for subscribers throughout the week, while a free table four stream will be available on the Matchroom Pool YouTube channel. TalkSPORT will show free YouTube coverage for those in the UK.
