Vietnamese number one Duong Quoc Hoang has heaped praise on Jefrey Roda following his World Pool Championship defeat in a hill-hill thriller in Saudi Arabia.
Duong, a quarter-finalist at the tournament two years ago, had beaten Daniel Maciol and Marvin Asis in the single elimination phase, before his dream was shattered by a talented Filipino in Roda.
The world number 26 was full of respect towards his opponent and also rubbished his involvement in the wax allegations that have overshadowed Filipino players during the tournament.
“Let me be crystal clear, my match against Roda was fair, transparent and clean, just as it should be,” Duong told his 227,000 followers on Facebook in a sportsmanlike statement.
“We both gave it everything we had. I lost that match not because of anything shady, but because of my own flaw: I was too perfectionist, too tight, and that cost me. That’s on me.
“Roda played like a warrior – composed, precise and clutch. His performance was nothing short of outstanding. He deserved the win.
“And here’s a warning to those trying to stir up nonsense: do not drag me into any drama. I have zero involvement in anyone else’s stories, so stop twisting things, stop being toxic. Keep the sport clean, and keep my name out of your mess.”
Duong will next compete on the World Nineball Tour at the upcoming inaugural Florida Open Championship from August 5-10, before the prestigious US Open Championship takes place eight days later.
