The WPA Women’s World 8-Ball Championship will take place from July 2-6 at the Oneida Casino Hotel in Green Bay, Wisconsin, organised for the first time by the Women’s Professional Billiards Association.
Following Tuesday’s opening ceremony at the Lambeau Field, the home of the Green Bay Packers, women’s world number one Kristina Tkach and Jasmin Ouschan will headline the 64-player field, with the eventual champion set to receive $30,000.
Chou Chieh-Yu and Kelly Fisher will both be attempting to complete the women’s world championship trifecta, having already won the World 9-Ball Championship and the World 10-Ball Championship during their careers.
Former world 10-ball champion Chezka Centeno, Pia Filler and Kristina Zlateva are also amongst a star-studded lineup, as are the likes of Seo Seoa, Margarita Fefilova, Wei Tzu-Chien and Chen Chia-Hua.
Other notable invitees include Japan’s Chihiro Kawahara and Yuki Hiraguchi, Argentina’s Ayala Soledad, Turkey’s Eylul Kibaroglu, Taiwanese cueists Shui Ching-Chiang and Wang Wan-Ling, Australia’s Meng-Hsia Hung and Indonesia’s Silviana Lu.
Alara Ghaffari, who became the second-youngest women’s European 10-ball champion in April at 20 years of age, leads the younger generation, which also includes American teenagers Sofia Mast and Savannah Easton and Japan’s Miina Tani.
The tournament will be double elimination until 16 players remain in the reckoning, while free coverage will be broadcast via the WPBA YouTube channel and Billiard TV as well as on Amazon Prime for subscribers.
