Hanoi Open Pool Championship replaces Asian Open in strategic name change

The newly-announced Asian Open Pool Championship has been rebranded to the Hanoi Open Pool Championship in a strategic name change made by the World Nineball Tour.

The Asian Open was scheduled to be held as one of Matchroom’s five signature open events but it will now be known as the Hanoi Open and be backed by Hanoi City.

Beginning on Capital Liberation Day on October 10, the World Nineball Tour have pledged their commitment to stage the tournament annually as part of an exciting vision to build a sporting legacy in the Vietnamese capital.

Both the Hanoi Open and the Hanoi Junior Open are fully supported by Hanoi City, with the $200,000 tournament taking place from October 10-15 and features 256 players.

Emily Frazer, Matchroom’s CEO of Multi-Sports, said: “This is major news for nineball and it underlines our commitment to staging the first of many world-class annual events in what is one of the sport’s premier international destinations in the historic city of Hanoi.

“We are incredibly excited that many of the game’s leading players will take part in the rebranded Hanoi Open Pool Championship, which enhances the World Professional Nineball Pool Corporation’s schedule.

“We are also delighted to receive support from the relevant authorities in Hanoi, who share our vision to take this tournament, and the Hanoi Junior Open, to grand new heights.”
