The Philippines and Taiwan will contest the first CPBA Teams Invitational exhibition in Taipei, Taiwan from May 27-29, with the five-player teams event recognised by the World Nineball Tour.
Dubbed the battle for Asian supremacy, two of the pool powerhouses in Asia will lock horns at the Park City Hotel in an event organised by Taiwanese promoters Fullcan Sports and Marboys Billiards Cafe in the Philippines.
Five players will represent each team at the 9-ball invitational, with the race-to-seven racks matches including a teams opener, doubles and singles in similar style to the famous Mosconi Cup.
Former US Open and world champion Carlo Biado headlines the Filipino team, which also includes World Cup of Pool champions Johann Chua and James Aranas as well as teenager Bernie Regalario and Jeffrey Ignacio.
Taiwan, meanwhile, will be represented by reigning US Open champion and current world number four Ko Ping-Chung and his brother Ko Pin-Yi, as well as Chang Jung-Lin, Wu Kun-Lin and Chang Yu-Lung.
All ten players will be provided with an ideal taster of the format ahead of October’s inaugural Reyes Cup, with places on the Asian team to be confirmed following the World Pool Championship, the European Open and the US Open.
The event will begin with the teams match that has become an annual tradition at the Mosconi Cup, and whichever team reaches eleven points quickest will be crowned the champions on Wednesday.
Coverage will be broadcast on YouTube via the Matchroom Pool and webthethao.vn channels throughout the three days, as well as on Facebook via Fullcan Sports and Marboys Billiards Cafe.
