Fedor Gorst successfully defended his US Open 10-Ball Championship title on Wednesday evening at Griff’s Bar and Billiards in Las Vegas, defeating Roland Garcia 13-10 in the true double elimination final.
A strong field of players attended the tournament after the Las Vegas Open and the World 10-Ball Championship, with the red-hot Gorst following his run to the semi-finals of the latter with a second successive US Open 10-Ball accolade.
The early stages of the final were closely-contested but Gorst was able to reel off four racks on the bounce to move 7-3 ahead. Despite Garcia managing to halve the deficit, Gorst’s incredible accuracy with the jump cue helped him secure the title.
Gorst had overcome Venezuela’s Jesus Atencio 9-4 in the semi-finals and Greece’s Alexander Kazakis in the preceding round, having already beaten Max Eberle, Sina Valizadeh, Norman Banister and Danny Olson.
Garcia, meanwhile, needed to bounce back from a defeat at the hands of Poland’s Mateusz Sniegocki, exacting revenge on the Pole in the penultimate round on the losers’ side.
Garcia also came through a 9-8 thriller against Filipino countryman Jeffrey de Luna and defeated Daniel Maciol, Kazakis and Atencio during his path through the losers’ section of the bracket.
Only Shane van Boening – who holds a record four titles – had won the US Open 10-Ball Championship on multiple occasions prior to the 2023 edition, with Gorst joining elite company following his latest success.
