Seoa stuns two-time champion Ouschan to continue landmark World Pool Championship run

Seo Seoa produced a seismic shock at the World Pool Championship in Saudi Arabia, dismantling two-time champion Albin Ouschan to reach the single elimination phase.

South Korean sensation Seoa, a former Women’s World 9-Ball Championship semi-finalist, continued her landmark campaign in the Middle East with an empathic 9-2 victory over the world number 24.

The 22-year-old had compiled four break and runs in a prior win over JJ Faul to reach the losers’ qualification round, before becoming only the second woman to reach the last 64, ironically following in the footsteps of Jasmin Ouschan.

Seoa’s boyfriend, the former UK Open champion Robbie Capito, had already qualified for the final 64 with a 9-2 win over Finland’s Petri Makkonen, having executed five successive break and runs in his first round victory.

Elsewhere, there were further shocks on judgement day as Joshua Filler, Aloysius Yapp and Ko Pin-Yi were all dispatched onto the one-loss side following losses at the hands of Jani Uski, AJ Manas and Bernie Regalario respectively.

Ko locks horns with Shane van Boening in a battle of former champions in a winner-takes-all showdown, while Filler and Yapp face Gerson Martinez and Sam Henderson to avoid succumbing to early exits.

Former champions Niels Feijen and Ralf Souquet were amongst the notable names to go two-and-out in Saudi Arabia, with their tournaments being ended by Joao Grilo and Tyler Styer respectively.
