The World Nineball Tour season gets underway on Taiwanese shores as the fourth staging of the Chinese Taipei Open takes place from January 8-11.

Jefrey Roda will be defending his title in Taiwan after beating former world champion Ko Pin-Yi in last December’s final, while former winners Ko Ping-Chung and Carlo Biado have also entered.

World number three and US Open champion Aloysius Yapp headlines the 128-player field for the $102,800 tournament, which also involves Mosconi Cup stars Francisco Sanchez Ruiz and David Alcaide as well as the likes of Naoyuki Oi and Robbie Capito.

A strong Filipino contingent of entrants include defending champion Roda, Biado and Johann Chua, as well as Reyes Cup MVP AJ Manas, Bernie Regalario, Jeffrey Ignacio, Michael Baoanan, Alexis Ferrer and Baseth Mocaibat.

Other notable entrants include Vietnamese number one Duong Quoc Hoang, Jonas Souto Comino, Wiktor Zielinski and Philippines Open runner-up Arseni Sevastyanov, as well as Thorsten Hohmann, Mohammad Soufi and Indonesia’s Albert Januarta and Edward Koyongian.

In addition, former women’s world number one Chou Chieh-Yu will be involved, while Women’s Saigon Open winner Wei Tzu-Chien and Silviana Lu are also amongst the female players to have entered.

The most prominent hopes of home success are in the hands of the Ko brothers, although other Taiwanese entrants include Peri Open semi-finalist Wu Kun-Lin, Florida Open semi-finalist Chang Yu-Lung, Kuo Po-Cheng, Fu Che-Wei and Liu Ri-Teng.

It will be double elimination, race-to-nine racks and race-to-eight racks on the one-loss side, until 64 players remain, before increasing to race-to-ten racks from the last 64 onwards. The quarter-finals and semi-finals are race-to-11 and the final is race-to-13.

Coverage will be broadcast live via WNT TV for subscribers, with selected matches throughout the duration as well as the semi-finals and final to be shown. It will also be available on DAZN in Taiwan.
