Two-time world champion Thorsten Hohmann has switched allegiances and now becomes eligible to represent the American team from next year’s Mosconi Cup in Orlando, Florida.
Having appeared on a defeated European team on three occasions between 2003 and 2009, Hohmann could now be set for a sensational return to the sport’s biggest event in opposing colours.
‘The Hitman’ could become the second player to represent both Europe and the USA at the event, with Fedor Gorst having swapped sides two years ago after relocating stateside.
Hohmann was born in Fulda, Germany but he emigrated to the USA in 2004 after gaining sponsorship, and the 46-year-old has since resided in Jacksonville, Florida as well as New York City.
The former world number one obtained US citizenship earlier this year, and more recently competed in his first World Nineball Tour ranking event under the American flag at last week’s River City Open in his hometown of Jacksonville.
Hohmann could be accompanied on next year’s American team by Venezuelan-born and North Carolina-based Jesus Atencio, the River City Open champion who also competed under an American flag.
