The 48th US Open Pool Championship takes place from August 18-23 at the Harrah’s Resort and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, with 256 professionals and amateurs competing in the sport’s most historic event.
World number one Fedor Gorst will act as the defending champion for the $500,000 tournament, having beaten the history-seeking Shane van Boening in his second successive final twelve months ago.
Van Boening returns to Atlantic City as his seemingly everlasting quest for an elusive sixth US Open crown continues, nine years after equalling Earl Strickland’s record when defeating Chang Jung-Lin in the final.
Reigning world champion Carlo Biado, Joshua Filler and Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, the winners in 2021, 2022 and 2019 respectively, are amongst 14 former champions involved, which also includes the likes of Ko Ping-Chung, Jayson Shaw, Mika Immonen, Darren Appleton and Ralf Souquet.
Aloysius Yapp, the UK Open and Florida Open champion and US Open runner-up four years ago, will be amongst the strong title contenders alongside world number four Johann Chua, 2017 runner-up Eklent Kaci, former European Open winner Mickey Krause and Premier League champion Moritz Neuhausen.
UK Open runner-up Jonas Souto Comino, three-time major semi-finalist Pijus Labutis, Jefrey Roda and World Championship semi-finalists Bernie Regalario and Kledio Kaci will be amongst those attempting to land their maiden WNT majors.

Now boasting a $100,000 champion’s cheque, the second-richest World Nineball Tour tournament is a golden opportunity, with other notable entrants including Albin Ouschan, Max Lechner, Vietnamese number one Duong Quoc Hoang, Japan’s Naoyuki Oi and Ukraine’s Vitaliy Patsura.
Aside from Gorst and Van Boening, Skyler Woodward and Tyler Styer provide the USA’s predominant hopes of home success, with other American challengers including Oscar Dominguez, Billy Thorpe and Lukas Fracasso-Verner.
The double elimination phase will take place from August 18-20, with 64 players then progressing to the single elimination phase which begins on August 21.
It will be race-to-nine racks on the winners’ side and race-to-eight racks on the one-loss side during double elimination, before the format increases to race-to-10 racks for the last 64 through to the quarter-finals.
The semi-finals and final will take place on Saturday, August 23 across two sessions, with the format being race-to-11 racks for the semi-finals and race-to-13 racks for the title decider.
Coverage of the main table and tables two and three will be broadcast via WNT TV for subscribers throughout the week, while a free table four stream will be available on the Matchroom Pool YouTube channel. Sky Sports will be showing the final two days in the UK and Ireland.
