The Florida Open Pool Championship takes place from August 5-10 at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, with 256 professionals and amateurs competing in the tournament’s inaugural staging.
Having hosted the Mosconi Cup in December, the Orlando resort now stages one of this year’s six World Nineball Tour open championships, with the eventual champion receiving $40,000 in prize money.
Carlo Biado will compete in his first tournament as a two-time world champion, headlining the field alongside the likes of world number one Fedor Gorst, Francisco Sanchez Ruiz and Shane van Boening.
Despite Joshua Filler and the Ko brothers notably skipping the tournament, 13 of the world’s top 16 have entered, also including the likes of UK Open champion Aloysius Yapp, Johann Chua, Eklent Kaci, Jonas Souto Comino and Jayson Shaw.
Other notable entrants include recent World Championship semi-finalists Kledio Kaci and Bernie Regalario, Premier League winner Moritz Neuhausen, Albin Ouschan, Naoyuki Oi, Pijus Labutis, Mickey Krause, David Alcaide, Robbie Capito and US Open quarter-finalist Vitaliy Patsura.
All of the American Mosconi Cup team have also entered, namely captain Skyler Woodward, Van Boening, Gorst, Tyler Styer and Billy Thorpe, while three-time world champion Earl Strickland makes his anticipated return to the World Nineball Tour.
The double elimination phase will take place from August 5-7, with 64 players then progressing to the single elimination phase which begins on August 8.
It will be race-to-nine racks on the winners’ side and race-to-eight racks on the one-loss side during double elimination, before the format increases to race-to-10 racks for the last 64 through to the quarter-finals.
The semi-finals and final will take place on Sunday, August 10 across two sessions, with the format being race-to-11 racks for the semi-finals and race-to-13 racks for the title decider.
Coverage of the main table and tables two and three will be broadcast via WNT TV for subscribers throughout the week, while a free table four stream will be available on the Matchroom Pool YouTube channel.
