The inaugural staging of the Marboys Open takes place from December 10-14 at the famous Marboys Billiards Cafe in Paranaque City near Manila, becoming the second World Nineball Tour ranking event in the Philippines.
Recent Mosconi Cup champions Francisco Sanchez Ruiz and David Alcaide as well as Reyes Cup winners Duong Quoc Hoang and Aloysius Yapp have travelled to the Philippines for the $54,000 tournament, which features a host of the top Filipino players.
Former world champion Carlo Biado leads a strong Filipino field, which also includes the likes of Johann Chua, James Aranas, Jefrey Roda, Bernie Regalario, Roland Garcia, Jeffrey Ignacio, Michael Feliciano and Lee Van Corteza.
Hanoi Open quarter-finalist Harry Vergara and 2006 world champion Ronnie Alcano will also be in attendance, as will prodigiously-talented teenagers Albert James Manas and Jaybee Sucal, the latter of who will be competing in his first WNT ranking tournament.
Should an Asian player reign victorious in Paranaque City, they will gain themselves a huge boost towards next year’s Reyes Cup in the Philippines, with the eventual champion receiving $18,000 towards their ranking.
The tournament will be double elimination until 32 players remain, played in accordance with WNT rules and race-to-nine racks throughout, while coverage will be broadcast on the Marboys Billiards and Matchroom Pool YouTube channels.
