The Women’s World 9-Ball Championship takes place from September 3-8 at the Claudelands Events Centre in Hamilton, New Zealand, as the tournament takes place down under for the first time in its 34-year history.
Chou Chieh-Yu will be defending her title after beating Allison Fisher last January at Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City, with the Taiwanese world number one therefore headlining the 48-player field competing for $175,000 in Hamilton.
Four-time champion and world number three Allison Fisher and two-time winner Kelly Fisher will both be involved, as will China’s three-time world champions Han Yu and Liu Shasha as well as 2017 winner Chen Siming.
Other notable entrants include 2023 semi-finalists Kristina Tkach and Seo Seoa, women’s world 10-ball champion Chezka Centeno, two-time runner-up Jasmin Ouschan and Rubilen Amit.
In addition, European champion Pia Filler will be joined by fellow Euro Tour stars Oliwia Zalewska, Margarita Fefilova, Kristina Zlateva and Bojana Sarac in New Zealand, while Japan will be strongly represented by the likes of Chihiro Kawahara and Yuki Hiraguchi.
Two-time girls world champion Hong Xin-Yu leads the younger generation to Hamilton, which also involves the youngest Women’s Euro Tour winner in Jolien Schuurman, Savannah Easton, Lena Primus and New Zealand’s own Alexandria Endres.
A format change for 2024 sees the double elimination phase become best-of-three sets and the single elimination best-of-five sets. A shootout will determine the winner should the score be 3-3 in the deciding set.
Free coverage will be broadcast throughout the duration of the tournament via the Billiard TV website and Pro Billiard TV on YouTube, with the semi-finals and final held on Sunday local time and the eventual champion receiving the $50,000 top prize.
