The 47th US Open Pool Championship will be held from August 19-24 at the Harrah’s Resort and Casino as the sport’s longest-running major tournament returns to Atlantic City.
Ko Ping-Chung will act as the defending champion this year after beating Fedor Gorst in last year’s final, as 256 players compete for $300,000 in prize money as well as the iconic Barry Behrman trophy.
Shane van Boening continues his quest for a record-breaking sixth US Open crown, while world number one Gorst will be attempting to complete the unofficial nineball triple crown following his World Pool Masters and World Pool Championship successes.
Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, Joshua Filler and Carlo Biado, the champions in 2022, 2019 and 2021 respectively, will also be amongst the title favourites in Atlantic City, with Jayson Shaw, David Alcaide and Ko Pin-Yi also strong contenders for glory.
Both UK Open winner Robbie Capito and newly-crowned European Open champion Mickey Krause have relished the underdog tag in open championships this year, and the likes of Moritz Neuhausen, Aleksa Pecelj and Sanjin Pehlivanovic will be attempting to follow in their footsteps this week.
Not everything revolves around the younger generation nonetheless as numerous legends return to the sport’s most iconic event, namely five-time US Open champion Earl Strickland, two-time winner Darren Appleton, Mika Immonen, Ralf Souquet, Thorsten Hohmann and Niels Feijen.
Other notable entrants include World Championship and European Open semi-finalist Johann Chua, Vietnamese number one Duong Quoc Hoang, Pijus Labutis, Chris Melling, Naoyuki Oi and US Mosconi Cup stars Skyler Woodward and Tyler Styer.
Players not involved for various reasons include the likes of world number two Eklent Kaci, World Championship semi-finalist Wojciech Szewczyk, Anton Raga, Mohammad Soufi, Dang Jinhu, Oliver Szolnoki, Chang Jung-Lin, Pia Filler and snooker star Gary Wilson.
Coverage will be broadcast on the Matchroom Pool and Matchroom Multi-Sport YouTube channels for the opening four days from 10am local time, with Sky Sports subsequently showing the final two days in the UK and Ireland.
DAZN will provide coverage in the USA throughout the duration, while TAP and Vietcontent will show the action in the Philippines and Vietnam respectively. A full list of global broadcasters can be found here.
