Two of the powerhouses in Asian pool, the Philippines and Taiwan, are set to lock horns in a new invitational teams exhibition, with the eventual winners receiving $15,000 in prize money.
Taiwanese promoters Fullcan Sports have linked up with Marboys Billiards Cafe in the Philippines to deliver the event, which has been pencilled in for May 27-29 at the Park City Hotel in Taipei, Taiwan.
Five players will represent each team at the 9-ball invitational, with matches including a teams opener, doubles and singles in similar style to the famous Mosconi Cup.
Former US Open winner and world champion Carlo Biado headlines the Filipino lineup, which also includes World Cup of Pool champions Johann Chua and James Aranas as well as Jeffrey Ignacio and teenager Bernie Regalario.
The Taiwanese team, meanwhile, features reigning US Open champion Ko Ping-Chung and his brother Ko Pin-Yi as well as Chang Jung-Lin, Chang Yu-Lung and Wu Kun-Lin.
Fullcan Sports, a subsidiary of the CPBA, revealed that this will be the beginning of further team exhibition events, with plans to bring them to the Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia in the future.
