UK Open Pool Championship 2024: Draw, live scores, format, prize fund and how to watch

The third staging of the UK Open Pool Championship takes place from May 7-12 at the Telford International Centre in the West Midlands, with 256 players competing for $200,000 in prize money.

The UK Open is the first of five open championships from Matchroom currently pencilled in for this year, with their signature events returning to Germany, Spain, Vietnam and Atlantic City, USA later this year.

Albania’s Eklent Kaci will act as the defending champion, having beaten Joshua Filler in last year’s final in London, while newly-crowned World Pool Masters champion Fedor Gorst and world number one Francisco Sanchez Ruiz are also amongst the household names.

In addition, Hanoi Open winner Jayson Shaw, US Open champion Ko Ping-Chung and European Open champion David Alcaide will be amongst the title favourites, as will the likes of two-time world champion Albin Ouschan, Ko Pin-Yi and Poland’s Wiktor Zielinski.

Ex-professional turned pundit Karl Boyes will make his UK Open debut following a successful return at the Scottish Open, while Chris Melling, Darren Appleton, Imran Majid, Elliott Sanderson and snooker stars Gary Wilson and Stuart Bingham are amongst the British entrants.

World 10-ball champion Carlo Biado headlines a strong Filipino contingent which also includes the likes of Anton Raga, Johann Chua, James Aranas, Jeffrey Ignacio, Bernie Regarlario, Michael Feliciano and Roland Garcia.

Meanwhile, the American cueists chasing crucial Mosconi Cup ranking points include Tyler Styer, Oscar Dominguez, Shane Wolford, Billy Thorpe, Shane Wolford and Lukas Fracasso-Verner.

Derby City Classic finalist Pijus Labutis, a two-time runner-up on the World Nineball Tour this year, could enhance his hopes of a Mosconi Cup debut with a strong UK Open, as could the likes of Zielinski, Moritz Neuhausen and Jonas Souto Comino.

Former Premier League footballer Troy Deeney, who controversially received a wildcard for the tournament despite local players now needing to qualify, will face Spanish Open runner-up Marc Bijsterbosch in the first round.

The double elimination phase will take place from May 7-9, with 64 players progressing to single elimination, before the last 64 and last 32 take place on Friday followed by the last 16 onwards at the weekend.

It will be race-to-nine racks and race-to-eight racks on the one-loss side during double elimination, before the format increases to race-to-ten racks for the last 64 through to the quarter-finals.

The semi-finals and final will take place on Sunday, August 13 across two sessions, with the format being race-to-eleven racks for the semi-finals and race-to-thirteen racks for the title decider.

Coverage will be shown on the Matchroom YouTube channel in selected territories for the opening four days from 10am local time, before Sky Sports broadcast the final two days in the UK and Ireland.

American fans will need to tune in via DAZN throughout the duration, while Vietcontent and TAP will show the action in Vietnam and the Philippines respectively. A full list of broadcasters can be found here.
