Centeno survives tense shootout on way to Women’s Las Vegas Open glory

Chezka Centeno was crowned the Women’s Las Vegas Open champion following a straight sets win over China’s Siming Chen at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino, having survived a tense shootout in the semi-finals.

Centeno of the Philippines added the prestigious Predator Pro Billiard Series accolade to her Women’s World 10-Ball Championship title, defeating five major champions on her way to scooping the $18,000 top prize.

‘The Flash’ executed all four of her spot shots in an exhilarating shootout against defending champion Seo Seoa at the penultimate hurdle, with the South Korean feeling the pressure and narrowly missing in sudden death.

Zamboanga City’s Centeno had beaten top seed Chou Chieh-Yu in the quarter-finals, having already defeated the likes of Allison Fisher and Jasmin Ouschan during an incredible campaign.

China’s Chen, meanwhile, continued her comeback with a series of tenacious performances, notably beating Japan’s Chihiro Kawahara in the semi-finals following a last eight victory over Wang Wan-Ling.

Serbia’s Bojana Sarac was beaten in the last 16 after claiming the stunning scalp of Kelly Fisher in the previous round, while Pia Filler, Kristina Tkach and Wei Tzu-Chien also exited at the same stage.

Attentions now turn to the nine-ball discipline for the elite female players, as the world’s top eight as well as eight wildcards compete in the inaugural Women’s Showdown from February 27 to March 1.
