World Nineball Tour’s Emily Frazer hints imminent Reyes Cup unveiling

Matchroom Pool and World Nineball Tour boss Emily Frazer has hinted an imminent announcement of the highly-anticipated Reyes Cup following the success of the inaugural Hanoi Open Pool Championship.

Rumours surrounding the potential of an annual contest between the Mosconi Cup champions and an Asian team have been rife for a number of years but those rumours could soon become reality.

Frazer was pictured alongside both the legendary Efren Reyes and the godfather of Filipino pool Aristeo Puyat during the Hanoi Open, possibly discussing the potential of a Reyes Cup.

The Matchroom Multi-Sport managing director has now posted those pictures on social media captioned with coming soon as well as an eyes emoji, with fans presuming a Reyes Cup announcement is on the way.

Frazer has previously teased the exhibition tournament via the Doggin’ It podcast, explaining: “Early on, you know years back, we were quite secretive about this Asia versus Europe type of tournament.

“Now, there’s no secret about it and we want to make it happen. It’s like how everyone wants AJ to fight Fury [in boxing] for instance. Everybody knows that they want to see it.

“But, at the moment, our investment is into ranking events so our investment is open tournaments. My goal is to publish more open tournaments for the rankings and then we bring in the invitationals so people have more to aspire to as such.

“So that matchup will happen, it’s just a case of when and where, and I’ll probably hit you at a time when you least expect it.”

The Mosconi Cup will take place from December 5-8 at the iconic Alexandra Palace in London, with Frazer having already revealed an increased arena with an expected audience of more than 2,000 people.
