Shane van Boening won the big foot 10-ball challenge at the International Open, overcoming Joshua Filler in the final to add to his Derby City Classic success in the same style tournament.
Uniquely played on a 10-foot table, Van Boening became the first player to win the 10-ball events at both the International Open and the Derby City Classic during the same year.
The American, who beat Poland’s Konrad Juszczyszyn to win this year’s initial big foot challenge in January, defeated former winner Joshua Filler 10-7 in the final to clinch the $8,000 top prize.
Germany’s Filler failed to make a ball on the break throughout the match and that ultimately proved a decisive factor.
Beforehand, Van Boening had emphatically beaten Aloysius Yapp 10-1 in the semi-finals, having already come through a hill-hill thriller against Roland Garcia and brushed aside Mika Immonen.
Defending champion Fedor Gorst was beaten 10-8 in the second round at the hands of Singapore’s Yapp, while Derby City runner-up Juszczyszyn went down 10-3 against Filler at the same stage.
Derby City semi-finalists Roberto Gomez and Lee Van Corteza both endured opening round defeats against Yapp and Gorst respectively.
