Vietnam run earns Ouschan Mosconi Cup wildcard as Styer also returns

Albin Ouschan and Tyler Styer will both feature at this year’s Mosconi Cup as one of Ralph Eckert’s and Jeremy Jones’ respective wildcard selections for the trans-Atlantic battle.

Ouschan will make his seventh appearance on the European team following his run to the final of the recent Hanoi Open Pool Championship in Vietnam, joining Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, David Alcaide and Jayson Shaw on Eckert’s roster.

His display in the Vietnamese capital was instrumental in him getting the nod, with the Austrian having endured a relatively quiet season up until the final major ranking event on the World Nineball Tour calendar.

Timing proved everything for the two-time world champion, who is confirmed as a member of the European team ahead of two-time MVP Joshua Filler and UK Open champion Eklent Kaci.

Styer, meanwhile, was an obvious choice for the American captain as he has competed in all six WNT major open championships, notably beating Skyler Woodward on his way to the European Open last 16 in August.

Wisconsin-based Styer, who won the Texas Open last month, will make his fifth appearance in the red, white and blue, having been on a winning team on two occasions and adapted well to the Mosconi Cup environment.

Styer joins Woodward, Fedor Gorst and Shane van Boening on the American team, with their bid to regain the cup on European soil taking place at London’s Alexandra Palace from December 6-9.

The fifth and final spots on the respective teams will be confirmed in due course.
