The China Open 9-Ball Championship makes its anticipated return following a four-year hiatus from September 7-10 in Shanghai, with 64 players competing for more than $200,000 in prize money.

Following the qualifying rounds between September 3-6 in the Chinese capital, the field consists of either 2019 finalists, players invited via the WPA rankings or those who won through the initial stage.

Wu Jiaqing defeated Anton Raga in the 2019 final but the Chinese sensation will not compete this time around, with this year’s eventual winner and runner-up receiving $40,000 and $20,000 respectively.

Reigning world champion Francisco Sanchez Ruiz headlines the lineup, with Joshua Filler, Albin Ouschan, Wiktor Zielinski, Mario He and David Alcaide also amongst the Europeans who have made the journey.

Brothers Ko Pin-Yi and Ko Ping-Chung are amongst the stand-out Asian competitors, which also include Spanish Open winner Dang Jinhu, Carlo Biado, Wu Kun-Lin, Dennis Orcollo and World Cup of Pool champions Johann Chua and James Aranas.

The format will be double elimination until the last 32 of the men’s tournament, with alternate break and race-to-seven racks, before increasing to race-to-eleven for the single elimination phase.

The tournament will see matches played in accordance with the current WPA rules and regulations, one ball on the spot, no break box and the three-point rule will be enforced.

It will be streamed via Chinese social media but not fully available to those overseas.
