The inaugural Spanish Open Pool Championship takes place between June 20-15 at Pazo de Feiras e Congresos de Lugo, with 256 players battling it out for the $200,000 prize fund.
Following Eklent Kaci’s success at the UK Open in London earlier this month, Spain hosts the second signature multi-table event from Matchroom of the 2023 World Nineball Tour season.
The Spanish Open gets underway a double-header in Lugo, with World Cup of Pool champions Francisco Sanchez Ruiz and David Alcaide competing on home soil ahead of their title defence shortly afterwards.
World number one Sanchez Ruiz headlines the field featuring both professional and amateur players, which also involves recent World Pool Masters champion Ko Pin-Yi, Joshua Filler, Shane van Boening and Albin Ouschan.
The $200,000 tournament, which rewards $30,000 to the eventual champion, will feature 256 players and is double elimination during the early stages, with 64 players advancing to the redrawn single elimination phase.
Matches will be contested over a race-to-nine racks format on the winners’ side and race-to-eight racks on the losers’ side, before increasing to race-to-ten for the quarter-finals, race-to-eleven for the semi-finals and race-to-thirteen for the final.
Coverage will be broadcast via the Matchroom Pool YouTube channel between Tuesday and Friday for those in the UK and Ireland, before the last 16 onwards is televised on Sky Sports and other international broadcasters.
Viewers in the USA and Spain will be able to sweat the action throughout the week on DAZN, with a full list of broadcasters available via the Matchroom Pool website.
